Removes Copy Protection: All four programs allow you to convert copy-protected DVDs. (You should only do this with movies you own the original copy of – anything else is illegal!)

Easy to Use: All four programs are easy to use. AVS Video Converter is extra easy because it lets you select your format from a list of devices as well as a list of formats. With the other programs, you have to figure out which format you need for your device.

Speed: AVS Video Converter was 24 seconds faster than the other products at converting a 10-minute DVD file to Flash format. All four programs finished this task in less than 2 minutes.

Price and Features: Cucusoft has the lowest price if all you need is a video converter. Mediavatar and and AVS Video Converter cost roughly the same , but AVS gives you 25 other software tools in addition to the video converter. Ojosoft costs more and doesn’t deliver any extra features.

Support: No telephone support is available for any of these products, but e-mail support is available.

Trial Versions, Watermarks, and Other Restrictions: All of the free trial editions have restrictions. Cucusoft and AVS put a watermark on your converted videos that you can remove by purchasing the software. Mediavatar and Ojosoft trial versions don’t have a watermark but will only convert 5% of the length of your video.

AVS Video Converter has a weird restriction that the other three companies don’t: there’s no way to transfer your license between computers. Their “Unlimited Subscription” means you get all 25 of their software tools for the life of your computer, not your life. If you plan on replacing your computer in the next year, buy their cheaper “One Year Subscription” instead.
